Recommendations for dosage.
What's the best way to consume your tinctures?
Our tinctures can be dropped under the tongue or added into a glass of water, juice or a warm drink such as tea or coffee as part of your morning routine. Whatever suits your lifestyle and makes it easy to enjoy, Some may even wish to add them into meals, soups or smoothies.
How much of the tincture should I take daily?
Suggested daily dosage of our tinctures are 1-2ml. This can be either taken at once (suggested in the morning around 15 mins before food or distributed throughout the morning and afternoon as preferred.
How many doses are in each 100ml bottle?
There are 100x 1ml servings per 100ml bottle. Taking the recommended dose of 1-2ml daily means a bottle will last between 50-100 days.
What does 1:3 dual extract ratio mean?
Commonly understood in medical herbalism, a tincture is an extract of dried organic matter that has been extracted into alcohol. The ‘1:3’ is the concentration of our final product after dual extraction, i.e. the ratio of dried mushroom to extracted liquid. Each of our 1000ml bottles contains 2g of dried mushroom for every 8ml of tincture – a highly concentrated extract. Essentially, the higher the latter number, the lower the concentration, meaning for instance that 5x less actual mushroom has been used in a 1:20 ratio vs a 1:3.
How many grams of mushroom goes into one of your tinctures?
We use only fresh fruiting bodies of which, for each 1 litre batch of bottles around 600 grams of fresh mushroom is used. The second step of the process is to dry our mushrooms in a dehydrator at 60 degrees, leaving around 1.5grams of dried mushroom in every 100ml bottle.
Can I take more than one type of tincture at the same time?
The maximum recommended dosage of any individual mushroom tincture is 2ml daily, 2 or 3 at this upper dose shouldn't be an issue. However, anything beyond that we'd recommend lowering the dosages of each to max out at around that 6ml total level and to talk a qualified medical herbalist.
We tend to find that most people can find what they're after from a mix of 2, 3 or at most 4 different mushrooms.
Is it possible to overdose?
Yes! Please see above, excessive amounts could be harmful due to the alcoholic content being %30 proof in each tincture and the potency of the mushroom.
Our products are 100% organic and natural but that doesn't mean you can't take too much. Some mushrooms, due to their composition of powerful compounds, can put pressure on the liver and kidneys if taken in too high a dose over long periods of time. If you are new to taking mushroom extracts in the form of strong tinctures - it's best to ease in slowly. Starting with one or two at a moderate dose - and building gradually.
Are there any contraindications to be aware of?
Yes! We recommend speaking with a qualified medical practitioner if you are on any medication or due to have surgery and are unsure of how it may interact.
We encourage anyone taking supplements of any kind to inform their doctors that they're doing so. Many are becoming more supportive of alternative/traditional treatments, but it's important that they know what you are taking.
Immunosuppressant drugs are known to contraindicate with functional mushrooms in general.
Mushrooms like Reishi can contraindicate with both blood thinning and blood pressure medications and if taken alongside chemotherapy can put excessive pressure on the liver.
Please speak to a qualified practitioner if you are in any way unsure.
Should I take my tincture all the time or should I take a break now and then?
Whilst not essential, especially if you are finding them particularly valuable; we do encourage taking a break from any of our tinctures every 6-10 weeks (or when a bottle is finished) for 3-5 days.
Are your tinctures safe to use during pregnancy?
Whilst there is some information around the traditional use of Reishi through pregnancy, there is essentially no modern research into the use of most supplements, including mushrooms, through pregnancy and nursing. It is, understandably, difficult to design studies around medicating pregnant people.
It's generally understood and something that we very much subscribe to, that taking anything through the first trimester should be avoided.
If people want to take mushroom supplements at any stage during pregnancy we hope and advise that they always seek the advice of medical professionals.
Will hot water in tea or coffee kill the medicinal benefits?
We recommend letting your morning brew cool very slightly before adding any tincture. As long as the liquid you are using as a base is below around 65 degrees, you won’t lose any bioactive compounds. According to the barista-gurus, coffee is best served at 80ºC, so a few minutes should be ample to get you to the desired temperature to add some additional medicinal goodness to your brew.
